Projects: Alteration

Saint Johns Hill House

This house is a ‘grand old lady’ in Whanganui’s St John’s Hill suburb, bought by a young family who found it didn’t suit how they wished to use the spaces as a family. A garage was added, with access directly from the street, as well as private outdoor landscaping and living areas, a new kitchen, and alterations to the upstairs bathroom.

Manifesto
Belonging is a key tenet of our concept generation. What is the physical context? What is the cultural context? How can a building belong to its site, its context, its place, its people? We seek to observe and respond to local character, express a belonging to the whenua (land), representing the people. We look backward to look forward.
