This new roof was based off a precedent locally of other buildings of the early 1900’s Whanganui time period, and was built to replace an unsafe verandah roof that provided cover to the public sidewalk on Guyton Street.
Signage for the companies housed in the building that the roof connects to was carefully considered, as were the genuine – of the original time period – steel posts. The existing roof had none and appeared to “float” rather flimsily. Our client is passionate about Whanganui’s heritage buildings and restoring this one carefully was of utmost importance.
The result is a safe and beautiful street frontage, which fits with its surroundings while looking as though it has always been there.
