Situated over a bend in the Whanganui River, as it winds it’s way past the city, sat a circa 1960’s house of modest amenity occupying a site of some drama.

This house has been given a comprehensive reconfiguration, leaving only the roof and basic form intact.  The house has been replanned over both levels to allow a connection to the site and the views beyond.

A second garage and an entry bridge have been added to rationalise the process of entry for occupants and visitors alike.  The revised entry allows a simpler, more efficient circulation strategy. This allows the prime aspects to be available for living.

The site has finally been actively engaged and the owners are enjoying the simple unlocking of the extraordinary potential in the site.  In a sense the house defers to the site and views and simply allows these to be enjoyed.
